I 'd like to discuss saussure's example in page 45 , his example began with question "why can a street be completely rebuilt and still the same?" saussure's answer was :
"because it does not constitute a purely material entity ,it is based on certain conditions that are distinct from the materials that fit the conditions, e.g its location with respect to other streets" . If we read the example for the first time as structuralists do ,we notice that it talks about rebuilt street , constitute a purely material entity and that entity based on certain conditions ,this conditions decides the street's location .This is called surface reading , obvious ,physical , meaninges are rigid but on other side if we examine post_structuralism point of view we notice that the street represents something else ,it represents the society we live in ,so it is a metaphor of our society. Also if we paraphrase saussure's question to :
"why a society be completely rebuilt or changed and still be the same ?" then we can understand what saussure meant by street.
However if we take a deep look on saussure's answer we find that "purely material entity" refer to imperfect people who live in this society and those imperfect people make the society still the same and because they are not pure they will ever make good changes in that society .But if we suppose that we want to change or rebuilt the society then we have to think of pure and good people who can make good changes and strive to develop their society .This philosophical point of view basically based on certain conditions , these conditions according to saussure is like principles and ethical values that the people have to follow . so as I like to called it by mathmaticl relation. If these principles and ethical values (conditions) matched the people (purely material entity then the position of the society will raise up to be respected from other societies .so the point is deconstruction concerned with meanings based on metaphorical and philosophical reading .
